What's The Impact Of Economic Globalization On Printing Industry?

IMPACT OF ECONOMIC GLOBALIZATION ON PRINTING INDUSTRY

A key trend, if not the defining trend, in the 21st century economy is globalization-the growing integration of previously autonomous national economies. Almost no area of the world, industry, or business if any size is immune from the forces of globalization.

The printing industry is just beginning to undergo rapid changes from globalization forces. Over the past few years the share of print production moving between countries has increased much more rapidly than purely domestic production and consumption. Many printing firms have become global in the sense that they have production facilities in multiple countries. Printers’ customers, increasingly, are looking for at global sourcing for their printing. The purpose of this report is to define, measure, and take stock of current global trends impacting the printing industry and to examine where these trends may take it in the future. Also, we look at the strategic and competitive implications of the future directions for printing firms.

DEFINING AND MEASURE GLOBAL PRINT MARKETS AND THEIR IMPACT ON THE U.S. PRINTING INDUSTRY

How large is the global print market? OIA/GATF estimates that total U.S. printing production(not including in-plant production) was $166.2 billion in 2005. U.S. Print production probably accounts for approximately 25%-30% of total global production. This means that total global print production was approximately $550-650 billion in 2005. North America, Western Europe, and Asia each account for about 30% of the total.

The above figures represent global print production. Print demand, on the other hand, is not necessarily generated in the same geographic region as print production.

Over the past few years, the share of global print production moving between countries has increased much more rapidly than purely domestic production and consumption. This trend is a result of shifts in global supply and demand for print with increases in production capacity in countries such china and competitive forces pushing printers’ customers to look at global sourcing for their printing.

What’s the impact of these trends on the U.S. printing industry?

A Couple of Brothers: RGB VS CMYK

I guess you have probably heard thousands of times the terms RGB and CMYK in daily working, yet do you really know what they are, when to use and why? When it comes to designing for print, there is a range of things you need to consider that includes the design itself, the type of files, color mode setting, the printing capability of equipment, etc. Among these factors, the color mode acts as a bridge that connects your designs and the final result.   Let’s uncover the basic logic behind color mode choice A golden rule in the printing industry is anything dealing with the web should always be in RGB and printed materials should be in CMYK. In the following, I will briefly explain the reason behind that.   WHAT IS RGB & CMYK? RGB  is an additive process that stands for red, green, blue. The main purpose of the RGB color model is for the sensing, representation, and display of images in computer monitors. However different devices detect or reproduce the same RGB value d...

Cutting Down Cost: Efficiency is the King

When the cost of your product is 50 US dollars, you sell it at 70 US dollars, and then 20 US dollars will fall into your pocket, are these 20 US dollars your profit? From the perspective of finance, 20 US dollars are your margin. However, when it comes to business, they are barely dividends. Dividends are something that only exists when there is little competition in the market. When more and more new competitors enter the industry, there will always be someone who may sell the product at a much lower price to occupy the market, and once much lower prices appear in this market, the competition will be fierce, and then the dividend will disappear. True profit doesn’t simply equal to selling price minus cost. The key to making a profit is your ability to cut costs through innovation. There are two ways to cut costs, one is the management and the other is technology innovation. Efficiency can be improved through management. You can use management tools to make your em...

5 Minutes To Have A Basic Understanding Of Traditional Printing&Digital Printing

ADVERTISING PRINTING Advertising printing stands for about 40percent of the total printing market. For the advertising printing it is typical that that the print buyer and the target group for the information are not the same. The print buyer pays the printer and distributor for delivering advertising material to the target group. For the advertising market it is most important to develop distribution channels where the advertisements meet their target groups. It is known that the increase of TV channels has lead to changes in behavior of the viewers. When the consumer has many commercial channels he tends to change channel when there is a commercial break in the program. This means that the commercial will lose its effect, and at the same time the TV channel will lose its viewer. Thus the increase in TV channels has a negative effect on TV media. The effect of digital TV is not yet seen, but experience with increasing number of commercial channels has affected i...
